He was educated at Leeds High School and during the evenings studied at Leeds School Of Art under Gilbert Foster who was a pioneer of the art colony at Staithes. Owen Bowen received his first paint box as a christmas present when he was four. His brother, Miles, provided his initial art training but he soon came under the influence of Gilbert Foster at evening classes in the Leeds School of Art and privately at s studio.
